Paul Maczaj

Teaching Philosophy

Golf is most likely the most difficult sport there is. There are two main reasons for this opening statement; 1. Golf cannot be mastered and 2. Golf is played against the course, not against other players. Because golf is such a challenging game, proper instruction is critical to improvement. While golf may be very difficult, its theory is fairly simple and my instruction style attempts to follow this principle. Through a sound static setup position one can begin the golf swing from a solid foundation. What comes after is a series of events all related to one another. It is my philosophy that the golf swing should be taught as a whole unit, interlinked and interdependent, from setup to takeaway to transition to follow through and finish the machine works as one and should be understood as such. By employing this strategy one can learn an effective and safe swing which requires minimal effort and minimal strain on the body.

Jack Breno

Philosophy

My thought process has changed over the years, but one thought remains the same,  and that is matching the arm swing to the body movements.  The swing happens so fast.  In  2 to 3 seconds, timing becomes critical and it is a challenge to produce the same results every time, but I am always working on it.

Jack Breno has had a long and rich history in the area. Jack was Head Golf Professional at the Nevele Country Club for over 30 years as well as the Shawangunk Country Club and the Hudson Valley Resort.  His most recent position was teaching professional at Rondout Golf Club.  He is a proud member of the PGA of America and inducted into the Half Century Club.

His many accomplishments have included bringing architect Tom Fazio to the Nevele for a major course redesign.  He has also served as co chairman for  the Carole Baldwin Breast Cancer Golf Tournament and has been a major fundraiser for the BC Open – now known as the Dicks Open.

One of his biggest joys, and still to this day, is teaching the younger generation.  He has been working with juniors from his early days, long before growing the game became what it is today.   To see all of their progress and love for the sport, makes it all worthwhile for him.

His love of teaching, relationships, and never ending analysis of the swing/game is legendary – like his sense of humor & cigar.

I am looking forward to joining the team at Wiltwyck.  Over the years I have formed many relationships with the club, members and the owners that it is exciting to be a part of this new revived energy.
